We thought this couple's sweet story was perfect for Valentine's Day week!
From the bride:
Aaron and I met in the first grade. We went to grade school together, as well as high school, and no matter how far apart life brought us, we always knew our heart's home. If there's one thing our friends know us for, it's our dedication to one another and our adventurous, wanderlusting spirits! Both together, and on our own, we've managed to live in many places, making friends and memories along the way in Illinois, Hawaii, Arkansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Seattle, New York, Ireland and New Zealand.
Aaron's time at West Point and military service brought us through some challenging life experiences at a very young age. His fifteen-month deployment, followed shortly after by his diagnosis of stage-4 cancer, created a three-year period in which we worried every day with a "life-or-death" mentality. It caused us to really focus on each other, embrace the positives, and decide what takes priority in life.
When Aaron proposed, we had known each other a lifetime, we knew our priorities, and we wanted to do something that was very "us" - small, intimate, heartfelt and unique. We were planning to wed near our old home in Hawaii, with 75 close friends and family, but even that didn't feel quite right. So, we decided to travel the world for 3 months and then elope somewhere utterly natural and serene. We spent time in Spain, Greece, Turkey, and the road tripped all throughout the United States, stopping at National Parks and beautiful American cities along the way.
About a month before our wedding and two months into our adventure, we chose Paws Up Resort in Montana. Glamping in Big Sky country sounded like the perfect backdrop for our bohemian dream wedding. And, it was! Our concierge at the resort, Taylor Alonzo, made sure everything was perfect. He helped me to find incredible people to make our day special – Habitat Floral for my bouquet, Skin Chic for makeup, Allison LeProwse for hair, and Brian Powers for photography. A complete dream team, all of whom went above and beyond our expectations!
To all future brides I would say this – “Do what is right for you and your partner. Do something that is completely and utterly YOU, no matter how off-the-beaten-path it may be. This is the beginning of your life together, so let this day inform how you want your future to unfold.”
